As I write this post at 6:45 a.m., I am half way through my morning routine. Morning routines are so important in my opinion. If you are anything like me, you thrive off of a routine or a plan. I am a huge planner and like to be in control of my life, so I try to do as much as I can to prevent the unknown. I don’t always know what my day will look like, so I always make an effort to make my mornings my “me” time. Whether you are a morning person or not, having a morning routine or at least a few healthy things that you do each morning, is super beneficial to your health. I also think that having a morning routine increases productivity during the day. Instead of waking up late and flying out the door each morning, wake up a little earlier, slow down, and do something for yourself. You won’t regret it!
My morning routine changes almost weekly depending on what I have going on, but I usually wake up anytime between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Upon waking up, I usually grab my phone and check my social media and emails. To be honest, this is not a healthy habit and I am trying my best to avoid doing this within my first few minutes of being awake.
Next I usually drink water. After sleeping, it is super important to rehydrate your body since you have gone several hours without any water. I always keep my hydroflask (aka the best water bottle ever made) next to my bed so that I don’t even have to think twice about it.
The next few steps are usually up in the air for me. Sometimes I will go straight to the kitchen for breakfast or lately I have been exercising. If I am working out that day, I usually go straight into my workout.
After working out I will go to the kitchen and make a glass of warm lemon water. I usually drink this lemon water while I cook breakfast. Lemon water is extremely beneficial because it aids in digestion, flushes out toxins, balances pH levels in the body, and is a good source of vitamin C. Always make sure to drink the lemon water prior to eating.
For breakfast I almost always have eggs with spinach (or other veggies) and avocado. If I am in a hurry or need something a little sweeter, I will do rice cakes/gluten free bread with raw almond butter and a little local raw honey.
After I eat breakfast, I usually drink coffee or tea (or lately, matcha) and scroll through Instagram or post a photo on my health Instagram page (@fueledbyfoods) or check out what some of my favorite bloggers are doing. Sometimes I will spend this time reading health articles. I am a total health nerd and love reading about health any chance I get. Also during this time I clean out my personal email and lately I have been using the time to blog (like today for example). I then go and get ready for my day.
This whole process can take anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on what I am doing, but I love it. I thrive in the mornings and find that mornings are when I have the most mental clarity. Mornings are my “me” time and my most productive time of the day.
If you haven’t developed a morning routine yet, I highly suggest that you do! A little bit of structure in the morning can set you up for success for the rest of the day.
